Vacuum Heat Treat Technician

Summary:

Assists and advises on set-up and operation of a bottom loading vertical configuration vacuum furnace equipped with a programmable control/recorder to be utilized for heat treat of engine parts prior to and after weld/repair operations

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspects and prepares engine parts prior to heat treatment.
  • Orders and receives parts.
  • Documents all maintenance actions as prescribed by established procedures.
  • Perform On-the-Job-Training (OJT) for assigned trainees.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years experience in AFSC 2A77X1 of which one (1) year must have been at the seven (7) level, or equivalent.
  • Must possess the ability to perform all required work prior to heat treat including proper cleaning of engine parts and proper loading/fixturing of parts in the furnace.
  • The technician must be capable of programming the furnace to run the various cycles required for the parts requiring vacuum heat treat.
  • The technician must be capable of monitoring the furnace system to assure that all parameters are met in accordance with the applicable technical data, to include: time, temperature, vacuum and cooling rate (as required) requirements.
  • The technician will be required to institute a viable preventative maintenance plan.
  • The technician must be familiar with the heat treatment of nickel base and cobalt alloys that require vacuum heat treat in conjunction with f-100 engine part repair operations.
