The successful candidate will be a safety practitioner responsible for the supervision and management of work safety activities. The successful candidate will enforce policies and safety programs, supervise training, and occasionally perform functions of a technical nature in the safety field. The successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination of safety programs encompassing all elements of the organization in order to secure the most effective results through and with other people. The successful candidate will be responsible for suggesting program or policy changes as they pertain to safety, to develop and implement special programs under crisis conditions, as the situation requires. Adequate knowledge and expertise in both management and safety are crucial to the ability to successfully perform the duties required for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Present lectures and conduct discussions to students according to class schedule. Use of visual aids, such as graphs, charts, videotapes, and PowerPoint slides is required to deliver knowledge and increase competence.
• Prepare outlines of instructional programs and training schedules and fulfill course goals.
• Plans and supervises work of students, individually or in small groups, in shop or laboratory & monitor the use of tools and equipment.
• Provide individualized instruction and tutorial during workshop and lab work
• Tests and evaluates achievement of student in technical knowledge and trade skills to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement.
• Administer oral, written, or performance tests to measure progress and to evaluate training effectiveness.
• Prepare reports and maintain records such as student grades, attendance rolls, and training activity details.
• Conduct on-the-job training classes or training sessions to teach and demonstrate principles, techniques, procedures, or methods of designated subjects.
• Select or develop teaching aids such as books, materials, supplies, multimedia visual aids, or study materials.
• Serve on institute committees when needed, such as, curriculum revision, workshop equipments or course requirements.
• Keep abreast of developments in their field to integrate relevant information into training programs by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional organizations, activities, conferences, seminars, and training sessions.
• Advise students on course selection, career decisions, and other academic and vocational concerns.
• Develop curricula and plan course content and methods of instruction.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS and WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

• OSHA-certified trainers must have five years of safety experience
• For construction trainer candidates, the experience must specifically be in the area of construction safety.
• Any of the following can be substituted for two years of safety experience: • College degree in occupational safety and health • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation • Certified Industrial Hygienist designation (CIH)
• Must have a certification of either of the following. These courses focus on actual teaching techniques and visual aids for conveyance of course information.
• Course 500 (Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry) is required for the construction industry.
• For all other industries, Course 501 (Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry) is required.
