Naval Engineer (Combat Systems)
Summary:
- Naval Engineer Combat System provides staff support to the Director, Technical Department and the Director, Engineering Support and Research Department in matters relating to ship modernization, maintenance, repair, and specific expertise required for Combat Systems installed on board ships of US origin. He may be required to use Personal Computer (PC) to perform Word Processing, Spread Sheets, Database Management, Communications by modem or Network, and Graphical representations. Within DTSU, he functions as primary point of contact as well as assigned the responsibilities for monitoring and coordinating matters relating to the following:
- Follow-on Technical Support (FOTS) programs for SNEP ships.
- Module Test and Repair (MTR) Program.
- Ship Configuration Management Program.
- Metrology Program.
- Force Modernization Program.
- Navigation and Communication equipment reviews and upgrades.
- TDC projects.
- Ship Life Extension Program (SLEP).
- Foreign Military Sales (FMS) cases maintenance.
- Repairables Program.
- SRF Application Management System (SAMS).
- Standards and Specifications.
Education:
- Baccalaureate degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- Advanced degree in one of these engineering disciplines preferred.
Experience:
- Fifteen years in work associated with naval ship construction, maintenance, and repair, at least five years of which are directly related to ship combat systems.
- Minimum of three years experience on Headquarters or Main Office staff is necessary.
- The listed requirements may be waived in those cases where the candidate has served as a naval officer for at least fifteen years, five of which were in combat/weapons engineering duty billets.
- Of the fifteen years, a minimum of three years of experience on a Fleet or Headquarters Staff is necessary.
- Computer knowledge and experience to satisfy the requirements of the Summary Statement is desirable.
- Eligible for U.S. Confidential Security Clearance.
