Life Support Technician

Summary:
The contractor shall provide life support technicians at KAAB, at KFDAB and at KKAB. These technicians will inspect, maintain and adjust aircrew life support equipment, conduct continuation training, conduct OJT in the use, fitting, adjustment and inspection of life support equipment and seat emergency oxygen system, oxygen system, pilots helmet, seat survival kit, survival vest, anti-garments, torso harness, and conduct demonstrations on use of life support equipment. In the event the RSAF desires these personnel to work in the parachute/fabrication function the required qualification training shall be provided by the RSAF in-Kingdom.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises equipment inspection, fitting, adjusting and aircrew instruction in the survival, use and care of life support equipment.
- Plans and schedules aircrew life support activities and survival and life support continuation training. Establishes performance standards for functions such as fitting anti-exposure suits, accomplishing preventive maintenance on life rafts and life preserves, and inspecting emergency radio communications devices. Develops and supervises procedures for inspecting, fitting, adjusting and instructing aircrews in use of aircrew life support and chemical defense equipment and aircrew chemical decontamination procedures, prepares, supervises, and conducts life support and survival continuation training program. Monitors availability of spare parts and controls issue of equipment. Establishes and maintains system of accountability for equipment. Coordinates activities with other units such as air operations, maintenance, and supply. Recommends procedural changes to achieve best utilization of personnel.
- Supervises aircrew life support personnel. Assigns work, such as inspecting life support equipment installed aboard aircraft and presenting preflight briefings on equipment required for missions. Establishes work priorities for functions such as fitting and adjusting flying clothing and oxygen masks and preparing records on status of life support equipment. Monitors proper inspection, maintenance and repair of pressure suits and associated support equipment.
- Establishes and conducts on-the-job training for aircrew life support personnel. Determines need for individual and group training. Establishes and supervises training program, including arranging for facilities, training aids and instructors. Plans and conducts instruction in activities such as cleaning, lubricating, and performing minor repairs to life support equipment; conducting demonstration on use of aircrew life support and chemical defense equipment and conducting aircrew chemical decontamination procedures. Orients newly assigned personnel and recommends formal instruction to keep personnel proficient in fitting, using and inspecting support and chemical defense equipment.
- Inspects and evaluates aircrew life support activities. Checks receipt and storage of life support equipment for proper handling. Monitors proper storage of pressure suits and aircrew chemical defense ensembles. Inspects functions such as maintenance of custodial receipt records, applicable maintenance and inspection forms, construction of training aids, and installation of life support equipment aboard aircraft. Analyzes inspection reports and corrective deficiencies.
- Performs technical aircrew life support functions. Provides continuation training for aircrews in the purpose, operation, care, and use of aircrew life support and chemical defense equipment. Conducts aircrew training such as simulated egress, hanging harness and forced landings or ditching. Instructs aircrews in proper ejection procedure, using ejection procedure, using ejection procedure trainers. Instructs aircrews in chemical decontamination procedures. Presents preflight briefings on aircrew life support equipment required for special missions. Provides indoctrination training on egress system and associated life support equipment policies, regulations and directives. Accomplishes difficult fitting and adjusting of equipment. Designs training aids and conducts demonstration on use of aircrew life support and chemical defense equipment. Evaluates recommendations of subordinates for improvements in equipment and procedures.
Specialty Qualifications:
- Knowledge of supply procedures, methods and techniques of instruction, use and care of aircrew life support and chemical defense equipment, decontamination procedures, egress or ejection systems and procedures and operation of signaling devices is mandatory.
- Qualification as an Aircrew Life Support Specialist is mandatory. In addition, experience in performing or supervising functions such as inspecting and fitting aircrew life support and chemical defense equipment and instructing is mandatory.
- Completion of prescribed (7) level management course is mandatory. Completion of survival schools (basic, water, arctic), academic instructor course and an Aircrew Life Support Supervisor course is desirable.
- The ability to speak clearly and distinctly without speech impediment is mandatory.
Experience:
- Requires a minimum of five (5) years experience in life support field of which two (2) years must be at least seven (7) level with two (2) years experience in an F-15 life support function.
