Engineering Department Manager

Summary:
The mission of the Research and Development Center (RDC) is to provide technical support to the Director, Engineering Support and Research Department, in the acquisition and maintenance of ships and ship equipment. This maintenance includes repair, overhaul, and modernization. In addition to providing technical input on hardware RDC also provides long range maintenance planning and ensures that all necessary elements of support are suitable revised as changes are made to the hardware. Work is conducted primarily in an office with occasional visits to ship and repair yards required. The results of RDC studies are provided to those assigning tasks as reports, letters, and directives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Engineering Department divisions have qualified personnel in the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, combat systems engineering, hull technology and drafting.
- The Engineering Department Manager directs assignment of tasks, and provides specific guidance to subordinates on the recommended technical approach to the tasks. He reviews all final products to ensure they are technically correct and comply with the RDC correspondence handling instructions.
- The Engineering Department Manager integrates solutions and brings the "whole ship" view to the Engineering Department. He is routinely called upon to represent the RDC in meetings with other commands to resolve technical problems.
- The incumbent should be able to impart to designated RSNF personnel the unique characteristics of the position.
Education:
- Master's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Marine, or Naval Engineering, Business, or Management supported by an appropriate Bachelor of Science Degree is required.
