Airframe Design Engineer
Location: Kansas
This master requisition
covers all position levels for Airframe Design Engineer
at our Client. Your application to this master
requisition will allow our recruiters to assess your
skills and experience, and determine the most
appropriate position level.
Job Description:
Perform research, design, and development for primary
structural design, including all areas of the fuselage,
empennage & wing utilizing both sheet metal and
composite construction techniques. Will be expected to
take direction from more experienced engineers on a
daily basis, but should be able to plan and execute work
per those directions reasonably independently. Will be
expected to work closely with IPT members (such as tech
engineering, manufacturing, planning, supply chain, &
quality assurance) to achieve desired design requirement
objectives. May be expected to direct the technical
efforts of less experienced engineers.
The primary outputs of Airframe Designers typical
include:
Primary Structural Design Drawings (detail part, assy,
and installation drawings)
Skins, Stringers, Ribs, Frames, Bulkheads, Floor
Structure
Provide interfaces for aircraft subsystems such as
Mechanical Systems, Propulsion System,
Electrical/Avionics Systems, and Interiors
Control Surfaces such as Flap, Rudder, Elevator, &
Aileron
Machine Parts, Castings, & Forgings
Composite Parts/Assy’s such as Shells, Fillets &
Fairings
Structural Design for Special Mission Adaptations
(detail part, assy, and installation drawings)
Antenna Installations
Radome Installations
Special Equipment Installations
Exterior Markings and Loose Tool & Equipment Drawings
Engineering Specifications & Standards (when
appropriate)
Conformity Documentation (when appropriate)
Kit Drawings
Requirements:
Conduct trade studies to determine feasibility of
designing new equipment or modifying existing equipment.
Perform design/integration (layouts, detail, assembly,
and installation drawings), troubleshooting, and
research/analysis support on the various aircraft
platforms in the airframe subject area in support of
product upgrades.
Coordinate technical efforts of suppliers by supporting
prototype equipment construction, qualification testing
and FAA certification.
Investigate and resolve production and field issues as
identified both through the internal quality system and
customer feedback.
Strong drawing interpretation skills and significant 2D
drafting and 3D modeling experience.
Experience in applying technical theories,
troubleshooting techniques, and concepts related to
aircraft structural design concepts.
Able to determine and develop approaches to solutions
with only general direction.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with customers and suppliers, both
internal and external.
Ability to work in a team environment.
PC literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and
Excel.
Ability to support multiple engineering projects with
independent schedule commitments.
First article production line/rapid prototyping support
experience.
Aircraft modification/development experience.
Ability to train and mentor younger engineering staff.
Desired Skills and Experience:
Experience in technical presentations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Project, and
PowerPoint.
Working knowledge of 14 CFR §§23 and 25.
Strong 2D Helix MicroCADAM and 3D CATIA proficiency.
Required Experience and Education:
BS degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering;
Mechanical Engineering plus 4-6 years directly related
experience in a technical aviation field or the
equivalent of a minimum of 16 years directly related
experience to substitute for a degree..
